Hey, I just got this program and I'm trying to learn how to model for several reasons.
Thing is, I don't really know how to. So can any of you in the community who do model help me out with learning how to do this?

Thanks.

Double clicking the icon will start the program. Alternatively (depending on your operating system) you may be able to right click the icon and find "Open" in the context menu. This will also start the program.

Lol pepsi, I meant if someone could teach me how to model....
Not run the program.

What version?
Does it actually have 'Super' in the name because I don't believe that actually exists.

No, It's 3ds Max. And it's the 2012 version.

Autodesk 3ds Max 2012 64-bit Version.
It's on their website.

I think you're lying and this is all some sort of elaborate troll.

Also, the older versions are superior because the plugins already exist and have less compatibility issues.

I'm not lying?

My school offers the codes to get 1 year student keys for Autodesk software, since I'm in the 3d modeling class next year I asked if I could have the program now an they said yes.

... Pepsi please leave this thread, I'm trying to get real help for modeling.

Oh, in that case I suggest first finding compatible plugins so that you can with with the desired format. What are you modelling for?

Well, at first I'm going to be modeling for GMOD, with just some simple props and than move onto human figures... Learn how to head hack and what not.
But beyond that, I'm part of a very novice dev team for a Unreal 3 engine project were working on (I'm mostly doing mapping but I'm going to help out with modeling once I get the hang of it.)

If you don't need gmod/source engine specific tips then I suggest just googling tutorials you'll find much more well written/made ones that will be more helpful than asking a community such as TnB where there are maybe one or two people who have even the faintest idea.

I really just need to figure out how to export the files from 3ds max into the source engine, and for my "Human" Models (Player models) I need to know how to bone rig them and get them to be animated like other models.

I thought you said unreal but w/e. There are good tutorials on facepunch about it. You'll need the proper import/export plugins of course, which I doubt are compatible with your future program.

Modeling = hours of headaches. Probably better to check on youtube and stuff for video tutorials I doubt many people can model and the ones that can are probably too busy to teach someone how to make a box.

It's not quite as simple as just "exporting" models from 3dsmax into the source engine. There's an awful lot of factors to consider when it comes to rigging, facial flexes, eye posing, and compiling.

What're you actually wanting to do first? Model or hack? Because I doubt jumping straight into organic scratch modelling will be a very effective tactic.

And I warn you before you start, if you do start. None of the tools work as well as they are supposed to.

Notepad++ works just fine what are you talking about
