The Infection

The Infection is an up and coming server set in the modern times in an alternative reality in the zombie genre that has a planned beginning, middle and ending. The server will begin just before the outbreak truly takes root and disrupts everyday life forever and will progress all the way into the infection, through the fall of the major urban centers and to a planned ending that will play out depending upon the groups that manage to flourish and take control as all the events play out on server.

The duration of this server is expected to be around 6-8 months from start to finish give or take some leeway on either side. It will specifically detail the fall of human civilization and the communities that spring up in the aftermath. As with all post apocalyptic tropes these days zombies are not technically the focal point but the ever present danger. Antagonist groups are to be expected but moderated so as not to be over saturated.

The server will launch on a slightly edited version of current modern TRP CC that more or less takes care of everything we need it to. Release date to be estimated soon. This server will fill up the time leading up to post half life 2 RP and the continuation of our previous story lines there.

No epic reveal or IC thread, kind of already did that with the RR. Just wanted to make the announcement official so people know that it IS happening. Feel free to reply, discuss and ask questions that I may or may not answer.

P.S I don't know if I will keep the name The Infection but unfortunately all the atypical zombie trope names have been scooped up at this point in time so fuck knows what I'll call it when we actually release.

Will characters have any IC knowledge on what a zombie is when they first see it?

For example, The Walking Dead had it so that the characters had never heard of anything similar to a zombie in their universe, and that old movies like Night Of The Living Dead didn't exist.

Idk how to really explain it

zombies aren't a known thing in the servers version of the world

yes that's cliche but that's how it's being done

In this universe night of the living dead was a box office failure and no sequels were made. Anybody who likes the movie is a weeaboo-tier social outcast and any mention of zombies is taken about as seriously as mummies or giant ants or king kong

hey, here's a late night question. I assume zombies are going to be represented via npcs for the most part, and I also assume that some people will die to these monsters. how will that be handled? will it just go by if the npc smacks you until your script health empties and you ragdoll? or will hordes and zombies be /evented when they preform actions or slaughter some poor bastard?

because with the npc thing, gmod can be real funky with fps drops and other stuff that might make some people get mauled in a goofy way or something similar. but with the mass event thing, id guess that itd be a bit micro-managing to have to emote for multiple groups of zombies attacking multiple groups of people who might be a bit of a distance away from each other. so im wondering what way of handling zombie attacks you're going for?

(this extends to doomsday preppers that coincidentally have everything they could possibly need to survive in a zombie apocalypse, including their very own port-a-potty)

this is actually an interesting question and i'd love to hear the official word on it myself.
i'd imagine it's gonna be similiar to how things were handled elsewhere with npcs - it'd be at the admin's discretion whether or not that'll be taken ic, or to which degree it'll be taken ic. ofc that requires a relatively fair staff team, but xari and people like him were booted out for a reason. if no admin catches wind of it, you'd probably either be free to !a "yo i got killed by an npc what do i do" or you can handle it at your own discretion.

I was joking but doomsday preppers have been a thing since the 1950's

it's be easier to say that they need to be authed first than to handwave them away

What about the animals that were in the zoos and in the wild? Will they be also 'zombiefied' or does the virus only affect humans?

Also, what would happen to said animals in zoos after the fall of human civilization? Would they just die in their zoos or somehow break out of them?

I just really want to fight a zombified lion.

I think it'd be more interesting to have wildlife as another contender in ZRP. Having to fight off mountain lions to get to an unlooted ambulance or something will shake up the constant humans vs zombies, and be able to provide some s2rp as opposed to blapping shitty npcs.

maybe the zombie virus doesn't mess with animal dna so there'd just be wild animals living off zombies (until they're torn apart themselves)

Having mini-events of like clearing a area of the wild-life to make said area into a outpost sounds pretty fun.

It’ll be fun to see the kinds of creative pbgs people come up with. I don’t think we should enforce everyone sticking together the whole time, especially because this isn’t RR anymore. A full-fledged dynamic system of multiple surviving groups in the same area has so much potential.

like this scene in I Am Legend around 2:30

The server starts before everyday life is disrupted, so won't things be a little too comfortable? Everyone will have houses, cars, firearms, etc. And when a doomsday situation reaches a town, most people would just pack their things and drive to the hills: will there be something like martial law justifying our characters' staying in the town? In my mind the decision to start from the very beginning comes with a lot of questions like that and I hope everything is well-thought-out.
