A little fun in the Halo universe;
Date: July 5th, 2558 (Four months before the events of Halo 5)
Place: Promesia, Nuevo Andalusia Territory
Setting: Second Andesian Insurrection

Summary: The universe of Halo has far, far more than just shooting the Covenant for humanity's survival. Before and after the Great War, the United Nations Space Corps and the United Earth Government were besieged in a struggle that many thought to be as deadly as the conflict that would soon overshadow it. The Insurrection, the mass Rebellion of human colonies both in the Core worlds and the Outer rim. Endless terrorism and kidnappings, entire towns being shelled to the ground by UNSC Orbital Bombardment. The creation of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, the original purpose of the SPARTAN-II program. The most bloody Civil War that humanity had ever endured to that date.

The year is 2558, the Great War with the Covenant having ended five years prior. Andesia through the war had survived almost entirely intact, the Alien Empire having caused both sides to rally around a common enemy. But when the war subsided, one conflict was sure to be replaced with another. Tension between the UEG Government and the local populace shot back through the roof, and skirmishes began to pop up and around the planet overnight. Soon entire cities were turned into little more than Urban Warzones, and over time turf wars between Insurrectionist factions and their criminal allies, corrupt law enforcement personnel, and UEG peacekeepers ensured there would be no peace on the streets of Promesa.

This server can take one of three routes, playing as;

A platoon of UNSC Peacekeepers sent into the city to try and neutralize the sector (UNSC Army Airborne).

A Precinct of Metro-Police attempting to heard a group of Civilians out of the crumbling city (UEG Andesian Metropolitan Police).

An Insurrectionist Cell pushing into the city, gunning down basically everyone in their way.

-----

This little bit could last anywhere from three days to a full week. It'd be made up almost entirely of Urban warfare, either starting with or terminating with a scuffle in the city outskirts. Each faction has an interesting Roleplay aspect you can play with, as well as plenty of situations you can juggle. Who do you try to save? Do you stick to the Mission or stick your neck out to help the populace? Will the ends justify the means? That kind of stuff.

UNSC Army: The goal is simple; eradicate any and all Rebel presence in the city. Civilian protection is a secondary objective, infact the Civilians can more likely than not get in your way. It's a very Vietnam scenario, you don't know who's on your side. Innies can be disguised as civvies, pay off Cops to send you on a wild goose-chase, set up in the rubble to gun you down. None of you are local, no one has any attachment to this place.

Andesian Metro Police: With the Military dedicated to fighting the War, the Police are instructed to carry out the evacuation effort. This arc would be something more akin to the game 'This War of Mine'. Your job is to survive, and get your group out of the city. The officers are armed with basic body-armor and Law-Enforcement grade weaponry. Dodging Insurrectionists isn't your only problem, you also need to avoid the UNSC's carelessness. Artillery strikes gone haywire, Longsword runs, Army Troopers mistaking your group for hostiles. This is less combat, and more stealth than anything else.

Nuevo Andalusia Revolutionary Force: A group of 'Freedom Fighters' pushing into the city to wrestle it from Government control. Made up of armed citizens, fanatics, UNSC defectors and those 'persuaded' to join the Revolution. This group's goal is the same as the UNSC Army, but to a larger extreme; everyone in the city needs to be killed or captured. Soldiers, Cops, Civilians, Government clerks. They're all the targets here. The Insurrectionists in Halo lore are rarely ever the good guys. They use painfully radical tactics; suicide bombings, torture, civilian shields and hostage taking. The definition of the ends justifying the means, with the belief that History will redeem their actions once they're victorious.

So uh, what do you guys think?

I have a soft spot for Halo because the lore is actually fucking rich. That Bees ARG was amazing and I still remember getting chills following it.

Halo was my childhood and my introduction to the FPS Genre. I'd absolutely support this.

To be honest, I would like the Battle of New Mombasa more. It's a huge urban environment with ruins of cars and large-scale battles in the distant. It's sprawling with mystery and Covenant patrols. I think you could even have the police department as a stranded Resistance-esque faction.

i like the metro police path the most, it offers a more rewarding goal and better story imo

I just wanna' be a Helljumper tbh
Unfortunately because of the spartan 4 program there aren't a lot of ODSTs left as most of them went to the spartan program :c.

Actually; the Infinity still had a full ODST Compliment even with there being several SPARTAN-IV companies onboard. The Troopers aren't going away any time soon.

If we went down that route, those're the best Halo 3 Marines I can find.

Reach ODSTs. There's a modelpack for the ones used in the ODST game but I think it's been removed :/

TBH wouldn't it be easier to set it before 2525? The Insurrectionists where literally the top-tier threat before the Covenant, so.

Those are sick. I'm just saying, for the ODST lovers, New Mombasa is your heaven. And I would rather play an expanse of Covenant rather than rebels, but that's just my opinion.

If for rebels, Reach before the Human-Cov War would be good too. Scary wildlife, expanse of farmland, military bases and everything else. Idk if there's a map for it though.

I chose post-War so it'd be easier for people to properly immerse themselves in, along with the idea that the models we have are closer to that era. Pre-war Humanity is far different than post-war, and honestly I think RPing post-war is a relatively interesting conflict.

I've been on staff for two seperate Halo servers; one during the war and one after. The one after had so many possibilities, until 343 decided to ruin things with Halo 5... 'story.'

I honestly think Pre-War might actually be more interesting, honestly. In the background, it's the era of the huge Insurrectionist groups like the United Rebel Front, and the Eridanus Insurrection. It's a point in Halo's history where the UNSC aren't necessarily the good guys all the time, and have been getting up to some shady shit. I'm with Rabid on this one.

I would definitely be interested in something revolving around halo.

While I fully enjoy most things Halo, I can see some flaws that could possibly come out through the launch of this suggested idea.

  • Halo, in itself, is an extremely violent and unforgiving universe where there is very little room for mistakes to be made. Be it the Covenant, the UNSC, or, as with this case, the insurgents that will come to wreak havoc on the city in question. How exactly would anyone account for wanton murder and killings of normal citizens and characters. In the point of the insurgent, it would be exactly what they were supposed to do -- they, as you said yourself, kill and maim without any form of remorse, often enough. So, either it would have to be unrealistic in the sense of how insurgent characters carry out their actions, or the population of the server accepting that they can lose their hard work at any given time if any form of hostile pops around a corner with a shank, and decides to rid them of their liver. Sure, you can say there'll be a happy medium, but how would that be decided too? "Oh, wrong place wrong time, bud, sorry," or "Oh, let's just take out that one section of the map, regardless of whoever's there." I understand that it's an interesting notion, but the confines of a city mean that an untold number of people would die with each and every attack.

  • Now, let's take a moment to look at the city setting itself. You've stated we can play a possible three factions, good choices, good flavor. What happens if there are people that don't want that, or want something different, maybe a civilian in the occupied city? Is this just going to turn into a re-skinned HL2RP, with different factions, and (maybe) less beatings? The UNSC Army, while being the "good guys" are still a lawful authority. Marshal law, under the UNSC, is likely just as unforgiving as times can be with the Combine. Or, let's say we play the Police. Firstly, not all the police in every city are good, evidence being that in Halo 3: ODST, a cop literally tries to murder an ODST (if one finds all the audio recordings), not to mention, the chief of police himself attempts to rape a girl, IIRC. So, that could lead to just as many issues, if not the fact that the Army would be deployed anyways, if not CDF because of the insurgent threat. And then, if we play as the insurgents, hoo-boy. Wanton murder, rape, and pillaging, everyone's favorite type of RP! It doesn't seem like that would be too well-received by the vast majority.

The premise itself is good, and I really do enjoy Halo. However, I just think that a city setting will be too enclosed and lacking in freedom for anything beyond a re-skinned Rebel v. Combine week-long event. Please, feel free to correct me on any point I made, as I would like to see something like this happen.

Good enough for you, Add?
